A selection of experimental and artists’ film and video works brought together for the enjoyment of the little ones and their parents, offering families an alternative to mainstream children’s entertainment as well as a new way for children to approach and appreciate contemporary art and film. In the 1980’s, Belgian cult children’s TV show “Tik Tak” broke ground with its repetitive and rhythmic patterns of sound, movement and colour, reminiscent of the work of early abstract animators, captivating the youngest viewers with a visual wonderland that sparks observation and sensory skills. Inspired by the success of “Tik Tak”, still popular with babies and young children today, Courtisane presents a selection of films and videos suitable for any “Tik Tak” lover: bright colourful forms, playful movement and music, but also animals and other strange funny creatures. The Baby Matinee will present classic works by Robert Breer, Oskar Fischinger and Jean Painlevé, as well as recent films commissioned by Animate Projects in the UK.
